The project has emerged from a problem that is present now in Bucharest, and
that is, the lack of quality public spaces. Thus, there is a need for a bold approach
and that is creating a modern and ecological public space in a historical area that
is used mostly by students. The concept of this project is based on the duality of
new and old by integrating a modern space in an historical context. The difficulty
of this project is noticeable because this means that the new and innovative
design should not destroy the historic image of the area. The purpose of this
solution was not to create another sterile public space but to build an innovative
and creative place.
The project is based on pedestrializing a space in the center of Bucharest. This
started from a strategy for the whole center, followed by one for the area and for
the detail zone. The strategy for the area was focused on the historic axis Calea
Victoriei that will be pedestrialized through creating new cultural spaces. The
detail area, which is the essence of the project, is based on creating a modern
public space that can be used by the students that transit the center of the city.
The particularity of this project is seen firstly through the placement of this space
in a historic area but also through the ecological and innovative character that it
provides (urban furniure that generates electricity, modular furniture, inoative
design and so on). The essence of this project is the duality of old and new that is
probably the aspect that makes this project so unique and daring.
